Sterling County IVSS Release Coverage
Texas no longer uses one legacy VINELink portal for every custody system. Texas IVSS-Counties handles participating county custody and supervision records. The separate TDCJ IVSS handles state prison and parole notifications. The Sterling County Sheriff's Office points custody inquiries toward the notification system, but Sterling has no public local roster or released-person archive.
That split matters in Sterling County. The sheriff may send a person to a receiving jail outside the county. Reagan County is a useful lead, yet it is not proven to hold every Sterling detainee. A county result may therefore identify the reporting or receiving agency instead of using Sterling as the location. Someone committed to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice belongs in the state IVSS system. A federal prisoner belongs in BOP records, and an immigration detainee belongs in ICE records.
Search Sterling County IVSS Records
A careful search uses more than a name. Open IVSS-Counties for a local arrest or short jail stay. Use TDCJ IVSS only after state commitment. The broader Sterling County released inmate search explains how the court and custodian records fit around an IVSS result.
- Choose the portal that owns the custody: IVSS-Counties for a county jail, or TDCJ IVSS for state prison and parole.
- Enter a full name, supported name fragments, or a DOC, SID, jail, or permanent booking identifier. Complete the CAPTCHA.
- Compare the reporting agency, birth information, and identifiers. Do not select a record based only on a common name.
- Open the matching record and note the exact status, agency, event wording, and time shown.
- If nothing matches, retry spelling, aliases, suffixes, and identifiers. Then call the Sterling County Sheriff and ask which jail booked the person.
A missing result has several possible causes. The person may have been released, transferred, entered a jail that does not feed the portal, or been listed under different data. Feed delay can also matter. The next step is not to infer an outcome. It is to ask the agency that created the custody event.
Sterling County Release Alert Fields
IVSS is an event and notification layer, not the full jail file. Field labels depend on the contributing agency. Read each item within the custody system shown on the record.

The release record should carry the booking number, release date and time, release reason, and any transfer destination. An IVSS alert is useful corroboration, but the contributor's own booking-to-release event log is stronger proof. If the status says transfer, custody continued. It was not a release to the community.
Set Sterling County Release Notifications
After opening a matched IVSS record, request notice using the methods the live portal offers. Texas's current flow may allow notice with or without a full account. It does not use the old four-digit PIN directions often found in legacy VINELink instructions.
- Confirm the person and reporting agency before selecting notifications.
- Choose an available email, SMS, telephone, or TTY route and enter the requested contact details.
- If creating an account, supply an email, county, compliant password, and security question and answer.
- Select the available custody-change events and after-hours preference, then complete the portal's confirmation flow.
- Keep the agency name with every message and verify any release or transfer directly with that agency.
When researched on August 2, 2026, the account-registration page displayed a temporary-unavailability message. That did not mean the public search was offline. If registration is unavailable when checked, use IVSS support at 866-268-8959 and ask about the current non-account notification route.

Two Texas Release Alert Systems
The county and state layers should never be merged. IVSS-Counties can report a participating county jail event. TDCJ IVSS follows state incarceration and parole information. A Sterling arrest does not become a TDCJ case merely because both portals have state branding. State coverage begins after legal commitment to TDCJ.
The TDCJ IVSS instructions show a distinct offender search and subscription path.
For a state prisoner, search by name, SID number, or TDCJ number, open View Details, and subscribe. For a county detainee, return to IVSS-Counties.

- The person moves to another agency and remains in custody.

- The sentence or supervision term ends under the owning agency's definition.

Confirm Sterling County Release Alerts
IVSS does not cover every possible destination. The Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE use their own national locators. County data can lag or disappear after release. TDCJ's public inmate search is also limited to people currently incarcerated and updates on working days with data at least one day old. None is a universal released-person archive.
For a Sterling County arrest, call Sheriff Russell Irby at 325-378-4771 and ask which agency performed the booking and entered the final event. Ask for the actual release date, release mode, and whether supervision continues.
An affirmative agency release event is the soundest result. Pair it with a court bond order, judgment, or other legal record when the reason matters. A no-match, projected date, or roster disappearance remains only a lead.

Reconcile Sterling County Release Notices
Notification and proof serve different roles. IVSS tells a registered person that a contributor reported a change. The jail card or booking-to-release event supplies the agency's own date, time, reason, and transfer details. A court order can explain the legal basis. These records can post on different schedules, so a short conflict does not always mean one source is wrong. Record each source's “as of” time before asking the custodian to reconcile it.
For a local arrest, ask Sterling which jail held the person. The former Sterling County jail building should not be treated as an active search source. Texas Commission on Jail Standards materials show Sterling with zero capacity, and the visible stone jail is a historic property. If Reagan was the receiving jail, its current-only roster can show continued custody while a record remains visible. Once the name disappears, request Reagan's event record. Do not convert the missing name into a release notice.
For state custody, TDCJ's public inmate search lists only people currently incarcerated. A former prisoner can disappear from that search after release, yet a transfer or data issue can also produce a no-match. Use TDCJ's official email information route with the full name and TDCJ number, or exact date of birth when the number is unknown. Ask for admission date, release date, release mode, and whether parole or mandatory supervision continues.
Texas IVSS notices deserve careful wording. “Released to other agency” means the contributing custodian ended its part of the chain. It does not mean the person reached the community. Follow the destination to BOP, ICE, TDCJ, or another county. An actual community release should be supported by the final custodian's event. This distinction is vital when reconnecting with someone or planning for a confirmed return.
The court route can add the reason for a local custody change. District and felony causes go through the Sterling County District Clerk, while county-court matters go through the County Clerk. A bond order, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or commitment may explain the legal event. It still does not replace the jail's physical release timestamp. Match the cause number and booking identifier, then compare the court order with the custodian's affirmative event. This creates a more reliable answer than either a notification or a docket viewed alone.
